He was a lowlife, a con man, and one hell of a fighter. His name was Jay Larsen. Most assumed that prison life was a dream come true for this strange fellow, and he backed up that assumption in the way that he strutted around like he was on top of the world. In terms of intimidation, Jay paled in comparison to some of the larger inmates. He surpassed six feet at a whopping one hundred and thirty pounds, sported the overgrown remnant of a crew cut, and the freckles which plagued his face made him somewhat of an oddity to behold. He was missing one of his front teeth, and would often spit through the gap at offenders.

The work was fine in and of itself, but finding ways to cope in a prison cell was an entirely different challenge altogether. August Hammond created an escape within the pages of his hardbound notebook, but soon found that this practice was giving him the symptoms of a madman. He shared the contents of his notebook with nobody, hoping to confine his bizarre and sporadic thought processes to its covers. For one, he had begun the process of mapping out the detention center to the best of his ability, through the glimpses of the building his weekly routine would allow him. Edit: I have more short drabbles from my class. Would it be worthwhile to post them or should I just wait to post more polished things? Lemme know. :3 -- Well, I didn't get much reception for the short story, but I guess it wasn't all that exciting anyway, given the simple prompt.
